WHAT ARE THE FIVE ELEMENTS?

The Five Elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.  Aspects of each of these comprise all living things, including us.  They exist in a nuturing and supportive relationship.  In Classical Five-Element AcupunctureÔ we often looks at these metaphorically.  Briefly, the Elements have the following aspects:

WOOD represents birth, growth, vision, clarity, hope, new beginnings and is associated with SPRING

FIRE represents love, companionship, intimacy, laughter, joy, maturation and is associated with SUMMER

EARTH represents abundance, bounty, nurturing, caring, harvest and is associated with LATE SUMMER

METAL represents preciousness, inspiration, quality, holiness, letting go and is associated with AUTUMMN

WATER represents purity, true essence, cleansing, unknowing, stillness and is associated with WINTER

We all have these aspects.  We all experience new beginnings and have visions of the future.  We have intimate relationship and experience joy.  We experience abundance and caring, inspiration and letting go.  We have times of stillness and our pure true essence is a glorious thing.

The Classical Five-Element AcupunctureÔ practitioner is responsible for assessing the state and relationship of the five elements of the patient.  Can the patient take in the bounty, let go of that which does not serve them? Do they have a clear vision for the future?  Are they capable of a stillness to balance the joy and laughter?  The healthy flow and balance of the five elements is what creates health and healing for the patient.  Classical Five-Element AcupunctureÔ can help recreate that balance.

This is and extremely brief overview of the five elements and their functions.  Please stay tuned, for in the very near future, this site will be updated and more information on the five elements will be provided.
